Jump to Conclusions Mat.....

Office space is my favorite movie of all time...and one of my most favorite quotes...which is really hard to narrow down mind you, is
"It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO. "
Well I think I might just need this mat....for all the conclusions I've been jumping to lately. In all facets of my life...with my sick kid..."oh I'll just diagnose her doc...no worries", with the liars in my life "oh that's okay, I'll just assume the worst of you anyhow"
With my 'union' "oh sure I'll do exactly as you said int hat email...for the entire 30 seconds I have until you send out another emails contradicting all of what was said in the first email"
The list goes on and on...so I thought...ah hell why don't I get some exercise out of all this jumping to conclusions that I've been doing.....enter the "jump to conclusions mat" You can buy this gem here, how great would it be to actually have one of these things!

Sick kids are no fun....

Natalie got her first illness this past week. It started as a cold that turned into a double ear infection and the beginning of croup.
So that meant that I only ended up working 2 days last week...and not even 2 full days and staying home with a sick kiddo.
And now I'm getting sick...ahhh the joys of motherhood. So I am totally behind at work, feeling like crap, and my back is sore from carrying my sick kid around all weekend....
But I'm lucky that I made it 10 months before Natalie ever got sick, so here's to another 10 months before she gets sick again. Wishful thinking.

Well that was sort of rude.....

So last night I stopped at the neighborhood market to buy some beer (it was a long Tuesday) and get cash so I could pay for the burritos that Dan ordered....sick kid and a meeting means no home cooked dinner for us.
So I go to the counter to pay for the beer, and the kid (yeah that's right I said kid, I'm getting really old) working there asks for my ID. I'm sort of stuck between flattered and annoyed. I mean I by no means look younger than 21, but I know he's just doing his job. So I had over my ID, he looks at it with an odd expression and while still inspecting my ID says
"so you used to be blond..."
Now, all flattery goes out the window, and is replaced with pure annoyance. So scowling at him I mutter "Yeah I used to be a lot of things..."
He gets all flustered and hands me back my ID.

So I take my beer, now needing to drink even more than I originally anticipated, and left the store....but it got me thinking, what was I that I no longer am.
It's funny how much changes in a few years, from the little things like hair color and physical appearance, to the bigger things, like well physical appearance.
With my 10 year reunion coming up...I'm wondering how different I am now than I was when we all graduated. How different I look, act, feel, think etc. And how different all of my "friends" are now. I wonder what we'll have to talk about, aside from the daunting task of "oh hi, how have you been?" "Oh that's nice, cute kids (dog cat etc)"
I mean really, we are all different people, living different lives....and if we haven't stayed in touch there was probably a reason. The things that bonded us 1o years ago are now different.
I'm optimistic that I'll re-connect with some people that I have been wondering about, and hopeful that some relationships can be salvaged...but I can't help but wonder what people will think when they see me. Narcissistic I know, but these are the things I worry about.

I hate not knowing.....

As a State employee, we've been sort of up in the air lately with regard to furloughs. Are we going to be furloughed, will all agencies be furloughed. Then it came down that we'd be subject to furloughs...oh but not my agency. So that was a relief for a moment...or a couple days as it were. Until...oops you're furloughed. Well now that I've resigned myself to being furloughed and am trying frantically to figure out a new budget with a huge chunk of change missing from it, we get an email saying that we won't be furloughed....or at least not in the same way. That;s great...except for those people who already took furlough days...after all the month is half way over already.
It appears that we might get lucky and only get a 5% cut in pay (much more manageable than the 10 that I was anticipating)....but now we're up in the air again.
I hate not knowing, don't get me wrong I'd love to not be furloughed or to only get a 5% pay cut....but it's the unknown that's really getting to me.
So I am currently cautiously optimistic that we'll be only getting a 5% pay cut...anyone want to wish me some luck....

Bath time!

Natalie loves bath time! Now that she can take baths in the real tub it's much more fun. It was tough at first when she was still army crawling, since she would just put her face down in the water and then get pissed. But now she's a bath time champ.

My little cupcake!

Here's the latest pic of little Ms. N. She was hamming it up as usual when we took her to get her pictures taken, so of course it was beyond difficult to choose only a couple. But here's my favorite. Can you believe she is already 9.5 months old! Yikes I had better start planning that 1st birthday party.
Her new favorite thing to do is to clap for the dogs, it's pretty freakin cute if you ask me. I'll try to get some video of it and post it since maybe you'll think it's cute too.

100!!!

Yay for my 100th post!
Thank you blogger for helping me pass the time while "working".
Damn, 100 posts I "waste" a lot of time.

Damn you motorcop.....

One of the many blogs I follow is that of Motorcop, link he is not only hilarious but a great writer as well....which helps the humor (humor... satire whatever) come across better.
Anyhow, he wrote a great post about Firefighters that of course made me cry. An easy feat these days, but not always awesome at work...yeah I read blogs at work...whatever.
Being that my father was a firefighter for almost 30 years, I already knew how wonderful they are but to know that others (especially those in similar fields) know how great they are is nice.

So thanks motorcop, for all you do and for recognizing greatness when you see it.

And if you don't read motorcop's blog already, add it to your reader....trust me it's worth it!
